Mazamas Centennial Hood Climb, July 19, 1994
The main Mazamas 100th anniversary climbs were Saturday July 16th, 1994 - on the weekend to get more participants. But this less-known climb was on the actual anniversary, Tuesday July 19. After a Baker climb on June 26th was cancelled due to weather, I proposed this replacement trip to our leader Don Steiner - because, well, it was a crying shame that no climb was planned for the actual anniversary! As it turned out, we were able to get 8 people to participate, including a friend of mine, David Shapiro, and all 8 summitted on a perfect day in great conditions. Not normal for that late in July! We enjoyed sparkling cider and fireworks on the summit, in grand old Mazama tradition. Though the fireworks were a bit of a disappointment in the brilliant sun.
